American Indian Health Fair Festival: Connecting Culture to Positive Health Outcomes
MAXTON, NC (Nov. 13, 2024) – On Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, WellCare of North Carolina (WellCare), a Medicaid health plan and subsidiary of Centene Corporation (NYSE: CNC), in partnership with the Lumbee Tribe and The University of North Carolina at Pembroke will host the American Indian Health Fair Festival at the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center, located at 824 Terry Sanford Dr., Maxton, N.C. 28364, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This free, community-focused event will provide essential health screenings and services while celebrating the vibrant culture of American Indian communities through exhibitions, activities, and performances.
With the theme, “Falling Back to Healthy Living by Honoring Our Ancestors,” the festival invites attendees to explore the connection between cultural heritage and health. The festival will feature American Indian artists and vendors, and offer engaging activities for children. The event emphasizes that health goes beyond physical wellness, incorporating cultural and spiritual dimensions that contribute to overall well-being.

Health professionals will be on-site to provide blood pressure checks, glucose and dental screenings, mental health resources, sickle cell testing, and more. Attendees will also experience the rich cultural heritage of the Lumbee people through traditional practices and exhibitions.
