Prior Authorization Reduction Update

At WellCare of North Carolina, we constantly look for ways to make it easier to work with us. We conduct regular reviews of our authorization rules to ensure we are doing everything we can to reduce unnecessary provider and administrative burden.

Since March of 2022, WellCare removed a total of 935 codes from our authorization requirements, which was a 28% reduction. Upon review, we have decided to continue to reduce. On July 1, 2023, WellCare will remove a total of 449 codes from our prior authorization requirement. This equates to a 15% reduction from the codes that currently require authorization. We plan to continue looking for opportunities to reduce the administrative burden of prior authorization for our providers and their practices.
